HighLevel, which many people still search for as GoHighLevel, is a software platform that puts a customer database, a calendar, texting, email, websites, review requests and AI features behind one login. HighLevel's own pricing page says it is designed to replace multiple subscriptions, and that most users replace tools such as their CRM, funnel builder, email marketing software, scheduler, text marketing tool and review management software.
For a plumber, a roofer or a clinic, that sentence is the whole pitch and also the whole risk. One login is easier than six. It is also one thing you have to set up properly.
What is inside
At the center is a contact database. Every call, text, email, booking and review request attaches to a person in it. The other features hang off that.
You do not have to use all of it. Many businesses start with the contact list, the calendar and missed-call text-back, then add AI answering and review requests later.
The AI parts, in plain words
HighLevel groups its AI under the name AI Employee. From its support portal, read October 11, 2026, the products are:
- Conversation AI. It replies to messages, such as texts and chats, using the instructions you give it.
- Voice AI. It answers and places phone calls with an AI voice agent.
- Reviews AI and Content AI. AI for working with reviews and for generating images and writing.
- Workflow AI, Funnel AI and Email AI. AI help inside automations, pages and emails. HighLevel lists them as free.
- Agent Studio and Managed Agents. A builder for custom AI agents, billed by use.
Whether any of it helps your business depends on what you tell it, how well it is tested and whether your phone and texting are set up correctly. HighLevel says its pricing and model availability may change, so use the app as the source of truth.
What setting up a voice agent involves
Here is the shape of a Voice AI setup, from HighLevel's help articles.
Two details separate a working setup from a frustrating one:
Routing decides whether the agent actually answers. HighLevel's articles say that for the agent to always pick up, the number should not be the default sub-account number, and call forwarding timeouts should be short, so callers do not reach voicemail first. Different articles suggest different timeouts, so test your own routing.
Testing is two tests. A web call lets you try the agent in the browser, but call transfer does not work in a web call. A phone call test goes through real telephony at standard rates and shows how transfers and routing behave.
None of this is hard in the way surgery is hard. It is fiddly in the way wiring a house is fiddly. If you want it done and checked, that is what an installer is for.
The rules your automations must follow
This part is not optional, and it is where most do-it-yourself setups fall short. Texts and emails sent by an automation are still your messages.
- Consent before marketing texts. The FCC treats texts as calls under the TCPA. Marketing texts need the recipient's consent, and you should keep a record of it.
- Honor STOP. The FCC says people can revoke consent in any reasonable way, such as replying STOP, and senders must honor it within ten business days. Replying to confirm is allowed if it carries no marketing.
- Mind the hours. The FCC's quiet hours rule for telemarketing calls is 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the recipient's location. Whether it covers marketing texts is unsettled, so the careful practice is to send only inside those hours.
- Email follows CAN-SPAM. The FTC lists accurate headers, honest subject lines, a clear marker that it is an ad, a physical address, an easy opt-out honored within 10 business days, and responsibility that stays with you even if a vendor sends the message. A violating email can carry penalties of up to $53,088.
These rules shape what you can do with old customer lists. Texting a past customer who never agreed to texts is not the same as emailing a subscriber. We cover what a clean, consent-based reactivation looks like in our guide to bringing past customers back.

Here is what the sources support, without hype:

Our HighLevel pricing guide adds up what a month costs.
Run it yourself, or have it installed
If you like building and testing, the free trial is a fair way to learn. You can start one through HighLevel (we earn a commission if you buy through this link). If you would rather run your business, we set up the systems for your trade, connect them and keep them running. We are a systems firm and work with the stack you use, so if you are on HubSpot or another CRM we can build there instead, or move you.
Our Essential AI voice agent plan is $449/month with 600 minutes of calls, free setup, no contract. It answers 24/7 in English, Spanish or French, books the visit, texts you the summary and texts back callers you miss, and it includes a customer system, a website and a phone app. Free setup applies to the agreed answering service. A wider CRM deployment, migration or connected workflow has its own written scope and price.
Frequently asked questions
What is HighLevel used for?
Service businesses and agencies use it to hold customer contacts and to run calendars, texts, emails, websites, review requests and automations from one login. It also offers AI features under the name AI Employee, including a voice agent for calls and a tool for replying to messages.
Is HighLevel the same as GoHighLevel?
HighLevel is the company's current name, and many people still search for it as GoHighLevel. This article uses HighLevel.
Do you need an agency to use it?
No. You can start a trial and build it yourself. HighLevel's plans are agency plans with sub-accounts, so a single business usually runs in one sub-account, either its own or one set up by an agency. Many service businesses prefer to have it set up for them.
HighLevel facts come from its pricing page and support portal, read October 11, 2026, and they change. Messaging rules come from the FTC and FCC and are summarized, not legal advice. We are an independent HighLevel affiliate and are not HighLevel, and nothing here promises any result from using the platform.
